Purpose
The Association of Women Surgeons is a not-for-profit educational and professional organization whose mission is to inspire, encourage and enable women surgeons to realize their professional and personal goals. Some equality issues still need to be addressed today, such as: pay equity, ergonomics, family leave, changes in academic medicine, resident education, the lack of women and diversity in leadership positions, and work-life balance.

We are joining them as they expand to Europe through local chapters. Members from all genders are welcome, and the activities promoted will be open to all as well. Among things we hope to promote are seminars, workshops (suturing, laparoscopy simulation, etc), mentorship programmes and others. All members should be supportive of gender equality and access to the speciality for all minorities. The group should be formed by medical students promoting activities for medical students.
In early 2020, we became an official group under the University of Milan and AWS international jurisdiction.

Highlight practicing role models at local institutions and within the community

Provide networking and mentorship opportunities with surgeons and surgical residents

Provide a forum for open discussion and collaboration on strategies related to professional development and the challenges women surgeons face

Promote practical activities amongst students (suturing, laparoscopy simulation etc.)
