On the 28th of February, the AWS-Milan committee had its first meeting for 2021.
During the meeting important topics such as Advocacy, Education and Research projects for the upcoming year were discussed.
We plan to focus our next Service Day (and academic year) looking for ways to make our university and its university hospitals more sustainable and eco-friendly. We plan on making a list of things that could be changed and send it together with other UNIMI associations to the newly founded Green Office.
The Peer-2-Peer project is finally starting and we have over 10 students presenting self-assigned topics to each other.
Some of these are:
Bruna- Pediatric Glioblastoma: diagnosis and treatments
Gabriela- Appendicitis management: antibiotica vs appendectomy
Stefani- Fetal surgery for Spina bifida
Reeva- Plastic surgery on face and neck
Preetha- Abdominal Stab Wound Exploration and Management
Aswathy- Robotic surgery: comparing outcomes/advantages of robotic prostatectomy in prostate cancer vs traditional method
We also have a couple of Research projects planned for this year, including an introduction to research and another one being a nationwide survey research about how Surgery is taught in medical schools around Italy and how students feel about it.
Finally, hands on workshops are planned to take place once it is considered safe to meet in larger groups of people. We have contacted mentors and hospitals in Milan that would support suture workshops for us and we are talking with the company UpSurgeOn about the purchase of a brain model and virtual reality 3D board.
We're very excited to start this new semester with many ideas and projects in mind!
