The Association of Women Surgeons Medical Student Committee is organizing research workshops for student and resident members. The first event from the series was about QUALITATIVE RESEARCH. The Research Committee has prepared a list of tips and tricks about the topic that works as a great takeaway message from the workshop.

Data collection and analysis can be iterativeaccept this process, adjust questions as you move along so you can uncover the truth.
Stop when you've reached thematic saturation.
Qualitative research generates new hypotheses, provides valuable data nuance and seeks to answer the questions that numbers cannot.
Asks the "how" and "why" questions, not "how much".
Begin with an exploratory interview series to generate a hypothesis -> expand once the relevant/important research question has emerged.
Qualitative research is not designed to make large, sweeping claims. However, many findings will resonate and be "generalizable" to larger populations.
Coding isn't about counting the bits, it's about tagging data for future analysis."
